History


For centuries, Leh was a key stopover on trade routes down the Indus Valley between Tibet and Kashmir, as well as between India and China. Salt, grain, pashm or cashmere wool, charas or cannabis resin from the Tarim Basin, indigo, silk thread, and Banaras brocade were the main items brought. In the history of Leh, the old seat of the Ladakhi monarchs was Leh.

Detailed Itinerary


Day 1
Delhi - Manali

You must proceed to the Volvo pick-up location at Majnu ka Tilla after arriving at Delhi airport/railway station. You will be picked up by a semi-sleeper Volvo between 5:30 and 6:00 pm for an overnight travel to Manali.

Day 2
Manali

When you reach Patlikuhl, the team will bring you to your lodgings to refresh themselves and relax a while by pace tour. The first briefing session will take place at Road Marshall in the afternoon, which will inform the team on the road conditions and riding technology. After lunch the crew is assigned bicycles and is escorted to Jana waterfalls for a test ride. The team can confirm that they have any problems with their bike after the test ride. Naggar is an old city at 1,800 metres above sea level on the left bank of the Beas River. In a little community 10 kilometres away, Jana Falls is a stunning natural waterfall.

Day 3
Manali - Keylong/Jispa

Today we set off on our 137-kilometer ride to Keylong, our first destination. We will begin our day at 7 a.m. as we'll be passing via Rohtang Pass, which has severe traffic during the morning hours owing to the large number of visitors. After arriving in Keylong / Jispa, we will spend the evening relaxing with dinner and a night stay in a hotel/camp. The Rohtang Pass - at an elevation of 3,978 metres (13,050 feet), is a high mountain pass located 51 kilometres from Manali in the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. It connects Himachal Pradesh's Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys. Keylong is the administrative capital of the Lahaul and Spiti district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, located 126 kilometres north of Manali and 120 kilometres from the Indo-Tibetan border. Jispa is a hamlet in the Himachal Pradesh state of Lahaul. Jispa is located on the Manali-Leh Highway and the Bhaga River, 20 kilometres north of Keylong and seven kilometres south of Darcha. Between Jispa and Keylong, there are about 20 villages.

Day 4
Keylong/Jispa - Leh

Today, after breakfast, we will continue our journey to our second stop, Leh en route Jispa, which is 335 kilometres away. When we get in Leh, we will spend the evening relaxing with supper and a night at a hotel. Leh, a Himalayan high-desert city, is the headquarters of the Leh region in northern India's Jammu and Kashmir state. Leh, which was formerly a commerce caravan stop, is today recognised for its Buddhist temples and neighbouring trekking regions. Ladakh is a region of India managed as a union territory that is part of the greater province of Kashmir. The town is still dominated by the now-ruined Leh Palace, the former palace of Ladakh's royal family, built in the same style and at the same period as the Potala Palace. Leh is located at a height of 3524 metres (11,562 feet) and is connected to Srinagar in the southwest through National Highway 1D and Manali in the south by the Leh-Manali Highway. We will visit the following places: The Bara-lacha Pass (Elevation 4,890 m or 16,040 ft) , also known as Br Lcha La, is a high mountain pass in the Zanskar range that connects Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh to Leh district in Ladakh and is located along the Leh–Manali Highway. Sarchu is a prominent halting station with tented accommodation in the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway, on the border of India's Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. It is located at an elevation of 4,290 m (14500 ft) above sea level, between Baralacha La to the south and Lachulung La to the north. The high mountain pass Nakeela (4 769m high) is located in Ladakh in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, at the elevation 4,769m (15,647ft) above sea level. On the road to Manali from Taglang La, the pass is crossed via the Manali-Leh-Highway. Nakeela Pass is the third of the five passes traversed by Manali to Leh. It's from Sarchu to Pang. You need to be particularly careful with the rounds since the road conditions are pitiful and even the most experienced drivers might try their tolerance. But if you've been on the road, you truly deserve a medal.21 'Gata loops' are dubbed the climb up to the pass. The 23km up to the Nakee-la with 21 hairpin curves is from 4250m to 4980m. The path, the spirit of the visitor who was buried here is reported to haunt him. Cigarettes and mineral water are offered on site and the adventure is continued. The Lungalacha La or Lchlang La (elevation 5,059 m or 16,600 ft) is a mountain pass on the Leh–Manali Highway. It is located around 54 kilometres from Sarchu, whereas the Leh–Manali Highway is 24 km from Pang. This is one of the easiest crossings of 16,000 feet, and is crossed by going on both sides of the Nala. Tanglang La (elevation 5,328 metres, 17,480 feet) is a high-altitude mountain pass in India's Ladakh union region. With the exception of a very brief unpaved segment immediately north of the pass, the Leh–Manali Highway heading south from Upshi to Tanglang La is paved as of September 2018.

Day 5
Leh

We will go about and tour Leh region today after breakfast, seeing Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, Shey-Thiksey-Stakna-Hemis monastery, and Hall of Fame. Staying in Leh for dinner and the night. Shanti Stupa is a white-domed Buddhist stupa on a mountaintop in Chanspa, Leh district, Ladakh, India. It was built in 1991 as part of the Peace Pagoda project by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura. The Buddha's relics, ensconced by the 14th Dalai Lama, are kept in the Shanti Stupa's base. Leh Palace is a former royal palace in Ladakh, India, that overlooks the town of Leh. Sengge Namgyal built the palace in the year 1600. When Dogra troops acquired control of Ladakh in the mid-nineteenth century, the royal family was compelled to relocate to Stok Palace. It stands nine stories tall, with the upper floors housing the royal family and the lowest floors housing stables and storage facilities. Much of the palace has decayed, and just a few of the interior decorations have survived. Jewellery, jewels, ceremonial gowns, and crowns are all on display in the Palace Museum. A hilltop near Shey, 15 km to the south of Leh, the Monastery of Shey, Gompa and Shey are buildings. Shey was once the summer capital of Ladakh. Thikse Gompa or Thiksey Monastery (also Tiksey, Thiksey, or Thiksay in Ladakhi) is a Tibetan Buddhist gompa (tibetan-style monastery) linked with the Gelug sect. It's on top of a hill near Thiksey, about 19 kilometres east of Leh. It is the largest gompa in central Ladakh, and it is notable for its similarity to Tibet's Potala Palace. It also has a distinct complex of structures for female renunciates, which has been the subject of major recent construction and renovation. In Hemis, Ladakh, India, the Hemis Monastery is a Drukpa Lineage Himalayan Buddhist monastery (gompa). The monastery was re-established in 1672 by the Ladakhi ruler Sengge Namgyal, 45 kilometres from Leh. In early June, the annual Hemis festival honouring Padmasambhava takes place. The Indian Army built the Hall of Fame as a memorial to the courageous Indian troops who gave their lives protecting the homeland throughout the Indo-Pak wars. Hemis Monastery is a Drukpa Lineage Himalayan Buddhist monastery (gompa) in Hemis, Ladakh, India. The monastery was re-established in 1672 by the Ladakhi ruler Sengge Namgyal, 45 kilometres from Leh. In early June, the annual Hemis festival honouring Padmasambhava takes place. The Indian Army built the Hall of Fame as a memorial to the courageous Indian troops who gave their lives protecting the homeland throughout the Indo-Pak wars. The fame museum is around 4 kilometres from Leh city on the Leh-Kargil Road. It serves as a reminder of our warriors' significant sacrifices in order to maintain our country's safety and security.

Day 6
Leh - Nubra Valley

We'll begin our ride today and visit the other side of this region, beginning at Nubra Valley. Our journey will take us through the Khardungla Pass, which is one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Nubra Valley is where you'll have dinner and spend the night. Nubra is a tri-armed valley in the north-east corner of Ladakh. Diskit, the headquarters of the namesake subdivision as well as the Nubra tehsil in Indian-administered Kashmir, lies roughly 150 kilometres north of Leh town, the capital of Ladakh. According to local academics, its original name was Ldumra (the valley of flowers). The Shyok River joins the Nubra or Siachan River to form a huge valley between the Ladakh and Karakoram Ranges. The Shyok River is an Indus River tributary. The valley's average elevation is around 10,000 feet (3048 metres) above sea level. Traveling from Leh town across the Khardung La pass is the most usual route to reach this valley. To visit the Nubra Valley, foreign nationals must first get a Protected Area Permit. Indian citizens have been needed to get an Inner Line Permit to visit the valley from April 1, 2017. Khardung La is a mountain pass in the Indian union territory of Ladakh, located in the Leh district. The native pronunciation is "Khardung La" or "Khardung La," however the romanized spelling varies, as it does with other Ladakh names. The Shyok and Nubra valleys are accessible via the Ladakh Range pass, which is located north of Leh.

Day 7
Nubra Valley - Pangong Lake

We'll leave after breakfast for Pangong Lake, one of Northern India's most famous lakes. Pangong Lake for dinner and the night. Pangong Tso, also known as Pangong Lake, is a Himalayan endorheic lake located at a height of 4,350 metres (14,270 ft). It stretches from India to China's Tibetan Autonomous Region and is 134 kilometres long. The Tibetan Autonomous Region covers around 60% of the lake's length. At its widest point, the lake is 5 km across. It's a total of 604 kilometres. Despite having saline water, the lake freezes entirely during the winter. It is a physically distinct landlocked river basin that is not part of the Indus river basin.

Day 8
Pangong Lake - Leh

We'll start our return journey today, after breakfast, by driving 225 kilometres back to Leh crossing Chang La. After arriving in Leh, we will spend the evening relaxing with supper and a night stay in a hotel or camp. Chang La is a high mountain pass in Ladakh, India, at an elevation of 5,360 metres (17,590 feet). It is said to be the world's second highest motorable road. An asphalt road connects Leh with Chang La through Kharu and Sakti hamlet. The ascent is quite steep and necessitates extreme caution.

Day 9
Leh - Sarchu

After breakfast, we start our ride towards Sarchu. This day is going to be very adventurous, as you will be witnessing some very colourful mountains, 22 hair-pin bends which is known as Gata Loops. You'll be crossing Naki-La (16,000 ft), Lachung-La (16,053 ft) en-route which you will also be enjoying the beautiful landscape of More plains & Tanglang La pass (17,480 feet) which is the second highest pass in the world. You will reach Sarchu by evening. Overnight stay in Sarchu.

Day 10
Sarchu - Manali

After breakfast we start our ride early in the morning towards Manali, en-route which we have to cross Baralacha La whose altitude is approx. 16000ft, Rohtang pass (13,000 feet), Deepak-Taal Lake and Suraj-Taal Lake. The route is slightly rough, so this day we shall try and cover the maximum distance with minimum stopovers. We arrive in Manali by the evening, followed by hand over of the bikes and gear. Later, we all celebrate the completion of our epic road journey.

Day 11
Final Goodbye

The day is free for local sightseeing and shopping before departing for Delhi. This puts the memorable 10 days of joy and amusement spent together to an end. Today is the last day of our vacation, and you will board a Semi-sleeper Volvo to Delhi in the evening between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. for an overnight travel to Delhi. You have now become a member of the Pac Auli Family 💓.
